Welcome to www.rhodesianridgeback.org. A global network of Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They are also referred to as African Lion Hounds. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a member of the Hound category of dogs. The ridgeback has been standard breed in Africa since the 1920's. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are used for hunting big game. Ridgebacks are loyal and intelligent and wary of strangers. The coat is short and smooth with a ridge of wrong way hair running down the back bone. Colors are reddish gold or wheaten. Males weigh around 85 pounds and are 24 to 27 inches tall at the withers. Females are 24 to 26 inches and weigh around 70 pounds. Other breeds of dogs may also be found on this website from other areas. Scroll down to view.
